Doha 30th October 2013: World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) 2013, the annual Summit committed for educational innovations and encouraging collaborative solutions to education challenges opened at Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC), Doha yesterday.
HH Sheikha Mozah at the opening of the WISE Summit’s 5th session, said that education must maintain the requirements of the various complexities of modern life with its speed, seriousness and continuity. She underlined the close relation between education and life, and the power of education to influence and change. Nothing is more significant to life than education, she added. HH Sheikha Mozah said that education is supposed to give proactive answers for the possible questions in life and should be prepared to face the challenges that have been arising from time to time.
“The more education thrives, the more prosperous life becomes. The more it languishes, the more life fades. There is nothing more beneficial to life than education and nothing matchesits ability to influence and change,” she said.
Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Wahid Al Hammadi, HE Minister of Education and Higher Education, the Secretary General of the Supreme Education Council (SEC) said that the summit has attained intellectual, scientific and media power.
He also said that that the participants in the summit represent the best of scholars, opinion leaders, politicians and practitioners from different areas and share their thoughts and experiences.
WISE chairman HE Dr Sheikh Abdulla bin Ali al-Thani declared the winner of Wise Prize for Education 2013, Vicky Colbert of Colombia, founder and director of Fundación Escuela Nueva. HH Sheikha Mozah presented the prize comprising of $500,000 and a gold medal.
The World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) was established in 2009 by Qatar Foundation under the patronage HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. WISE is encouraging collaboration and building the future of education through its annual summit and various programmes.
