Qatar Airways set to join oneworld alliance in October

Doha 10th September 2013 : Qatar airways will join the oneworld airline alliance on Wednesday 30 October, 2013.

The airline will become the first of the three large Gulf airlines to join an airline alliance, giving it a competitive edge against its opponents Emirates and Etihad.

The airline declared its joining one in October last year.

Qatar Airways will add 20 destinations to the oneworld route map along with Ethiopia, Iran and Tanzania and Qatar will get access to Southern Europe and Africa.

The airline will be capable of building more commercial tie-ups with other oneworld members – British Airways, American Airlines, Finnair, Cathay Pacific, airberlin, Japan Airlines, Iberia, Malaysia Airlines, LAN, Qantas, Royal Jordanian and S7. Qatar Airways has already declared a loyalty programme tie-up with British Airways.
