Doha 11th December 2013: Almost 100 percentage work on Lusail Light Rail Transit (LRT) underground station has completed, according to a Qatar Rail official.
Civil work on LRT’s underground stations located at Energy City is 100 percent complete and ready for MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) installations. The LRT consists of four lines extending to 30.5km in total, among which are 19km at ground level, 1km above the ground, 10km underground, and 1.5km at grade.
The overall project include a fleet of 34 trains and 37 stations, 24 of which are at the ground level, 10 are underground, with one located on the bridge level and two connecting two high-rises. Fifty percent of the structure of the bridge overseeing Al Khor and the Lusail LRT has constructed. It is scheduled to be officially delivered by 2017. Qatar Rail has completed over 60% of the structure for drilling works for the stations.
The Long Distance Passenger and Freight Rail transportation system, which will cover 350km in distance at a speed ranging between 220 and 350km/h for passenger trains, and nearing 120km/h for freight trains, is under technical and commercial evaluation by expert consultants. The underground railway network in Doha will be at depths ranging from 20 to 53 metres. Major construction works on Doha Metro Project are expected to be accomplished by 2018.
