Gang rape of Filipina housemaid Five suspects arrested

Doha 1st September 2013:Five men all reported to be Indians have taken into custody for alleged gang-raping of a 32-year-old Filipina housemaid in Qatar. The incident is reported to be happened on 10th of last month.

According to reports, five men claiming to be Criminal Investigation Department officials entered her room, asked for her residency papers and then raped her. The woman reported the sexual assault against her two weeks later.

The five suspects were arrested “following a joint entrapment operation by the Criminal Investigation Department of Qatar and the Interpol”, Philippine news network, GMA has reported. It is not clear what charges have been filed against them.

Various Philippine groups in Qatar have condemned the incident, describing it as an “inhumane act”.

Philippine ambassador Crescente Relacion said that the embassy would extend all possible help to the Filipina, known to be a single mother.  Counselling services would be given to the woman.

The embassy also urged Filipinos to ask proper identity from people before allowing them to enter their residence.
