Emergency leave for Filipino, Somali staff at HMC

Doha 22nd November 2013: Somali and Filipino staffs at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) have been granted emergency leave to check on their family members at home.

“Qatar is mobilising efforts to support the people of Somalia and the Philippines in coordination with all local charities. Members of the Somali and Filipino community are an integral part of HMC’s workforce. We stand together to get over this harsh period. Therefore, HMC decided to give them vacations to check on their family members”, said Dr Yusif Al Moslimani, Medical Director, Hamad General Hospital.

A month long fundraising initiative was launched in an event supporting Qatar Solidarity Day with the People of Somalia and Philippine as part of the effort led by Qatar Red Crescent, Sheikh Eid Charity, RAF Foundation, and Al Asmakh Charity to take steps to rush aid to victims of natural disasters in both countries. The event raised QR31m and 40 tonnes of goods worth QR1m in 3 hours on Tuesday. Relief will include food, non-food items, potable water, shelter, blankets, mattresses, and tarpaulin sheets.

Adel Al Baker, Public Affairs Advisor at QRC expressed his confidence in all supporters and charities that focus their work on the relief of vulnerable communities and humanitarian services. He highlighted the organizational side of relief campaigns and that the five committees that have been formed are working in an orchestrated manner to facilitate communications with donors and offices abroad.

HMC works relentlessly to meet both social and relief initiatives led by Qatar to relieve the suffering of people around the globe with focus on the recent disasters that paralysed lives in both counties, said Dr Hanan al Kuwari, HMC General Director.

According to HMC’s Executive Director Mr Ali al Khater, HMC works closely with all charities in Qatar to alleviate the suffering of the people of Somalia and the Philippines whose expat communities have played vital role in the development of Qatar.
