Doha 23rd December 2013: Brazil will host Qatari year of Culture 2014, it was announced during Qatar National Day celebrations at the Qatari Embassy in Brasilia, Brazil.
Qatar Brazil Year of Culture will be officially launched at Museum of Islamic Art, Doha on 27th January 2014. Brazil is the third country to host Qatari cultural year after Japan in 2012 and United Kingdom in 2013.
The Year of Culture, launched by Qatar Museums Authority (QMA), aims to strengthen the historical ties between both countries through the exchange of cultural dialogue.
Several events promoting Arab culture including music concerts, film festivals and Qatari sports presentations will take place during Qatar Brazil year of Culture 2014. The activities will take place in several cities, including Brasília, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and João Pessoa and it will be sponsored by the Brazilian ministries of Sports and Culture.
Qatar Museums Authority delegate Rafah Barakat, Qatari ambassador in Brasília Mohamed Alhayki, the political undersecretary general for Africa and the Middle East at the Ministry of External Relations, ambassador Paulo Cordeiro de Andrade Pinto, were attended the event.
“The actions designed to publicize Qatari culture in friendly countries is an initiative of sheikha Maysa Bint Hamad Al Thani, chairperson of the Qatar Museums Authority. She is spearheading this initiative for building bridges with other cultures,” said Alhayki.
