Doha 29th December 2013: Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced a partial and temporary closure of the Sheraton roundabout and Al Dafna roundabout from coming Wednesday.
The closure is part of ongoing works on conversion of roundabouts to signalised intersections, according to Ashghal.
The closure of the roundabouts will begin from the night of 1st January as shown in the map, red coded closures and green coded passages. Two lanes will remain open to traffic in each direction with all necessary traffic signage and directions.
Roundabouts that have been turned into signal-controlled junctions include Museum of Islamic Art, Qatar National Theatre, and General Post Office, Wadi Al Sail, Emiri Diwan, Grand Hamad Street in addition to the Ludaihi Roundabout, Onaiza Roundabout and Lejbailat Roundabout.
The new intersections will include three lane dual carriageways, three lanes from Corniche street towards City Centre and three lanes towards Omar Al Mukhtar street, in addition to the side roads to the right of signals.
The project which is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2014, also includes a signalised pedestrian crossing between the two intersections to access the new Qatar International Exhibition Centre and the government buildings in this area without a need to make a U-turn from Al Dafna intersection.
