Doha 23rd 2014: Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) announced the start of improvement works on C-Ring Road from May 1st 2014.
The project consists of widening C-Ring Road from three lanes to four and converting a number of roundabouts to signal-controlled intersections, in addition to adding three new U-turns with pedestrian crossings before the intersections. It will also include the construction of permanent roads with new layers of asphalt, traffic signals and street lighting, upgrading the irrigation pipes and diverting other existing utilities in the area.
The project aims at enhancing the road design and increases the capacity of C-Ring road to accommodate projected traffic increases. It is expected to be completed by the second quarter of next year.
The project will be spread over four phases to reduce the level of disruption experienced by road users. Phase 1 of the project will extend from VIP roundabout to midway between Najma and Mansoura intersection and is expected to be completed by third quarter 0f 2014. The work on each phase will start only after the previous phase is completed.
Three lanes will remain open to traffic in both directions throughout the construction period and temporary alternative accesses will be made available for road users.
The authority will launch an integrated awareness programme to keep the public completely informed about the construction works. Project flyers will be distributed in both Arabic and English to residents and business owners in these areas. Asghal will also update progress of the work to their Twitter account. Registered users will also get regular text messages on Ashghal’s website.
