Katara to host Ballet Spartacus for the first time in Arab world

Doha 03rd September 2013:   For the first time in the Arab world, Ballet Spartacus will be hosted by Katara Cultural Village from 5 to 7 September at Katara Opera House.

The event will be performed by the Armenian National Opera and Ballet Theater, who performed around the world over 200 performances.

The Spartacus ballet is created by an American composer Aram Khachaturian. The first three were written in the period of 1955-1957. It was first performed in Leningrad 1956, with choreography by Leonid Yakobson. It became one of the most popular Ballet since the premium show of the Ballet in Moscow in 1958. It was choreographed by Igor Moiseev. It was the 1968 production, choreographed by Yury Grigorovich, which attained the greatest acclaim for the ballet.

Spartacus is the salve leader uprising against the Romans beginning in 73 B.C. After the seizure of Mount Vesuvius, set up as their fortress, they were beaten in bloody battle by Licinius Crassus and Pompey in 71 B.C. Six thousand captured slaves including Spartacus were later crucified on the Appian Way.
