Doha 24th March 2014: Foreign Minister Khaled al-Attiyah denied the rumors of dispute between Qatar and Saudi Arabia over Syria’s war saying Qatar have the highest level of coordination with the Friends of Syria and in particular with Saudi Arabia, QNA reported. He was speaking at a public forum in Brussels on Saturday.

Diplomats and opposition sources have said the Qatar and Saudi Arabia have supported different armed groups in Syria. They say that while Qatar supports the moderate armed groups also backed by Saudi Arabia and the West, it also has supported more hardline groups that try to establish a strict Islamic state. Supporters of Qatari policy in Syria say Saudi tends to support the same armed groups as Qatar does.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain withdrew their ambassadors from Qatar on March 5 in a move widely seen as showing their displeasure at Qatar’s support for Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood.

Qatar regretted the decision to recall the envoys and said its policy is based on openness towards all, and do not want to exclude anyone.
