Q League to begin today

Doha 21st September 2013: The “Q League”, new tournament launched by The Qatar Football Association (QFA) will start today.

Q League will consist of 18 teams, including 14 from the Reserve League and four from the Second Division. The tournament will be played on league format with the top two promoted to Qatar Stars League, while the 13th and 14th placed teams in the QSL will be relegated to the Q League.

In the opening match of the tournament Mesaimeer will meet Al Sadd and Muaither will compete with Gharafa. Matches between Al Ahli and Al Khor and Sailiya and Qatar Sports will also be held today.

Hamad al-Mannai, QFA director of competitions said the introduction of the tournament will provide another competitive opportunity for young players in Qatar.

The tournament will have 153 matches in total with the final match scheduled on December 17. It will be played in nine stadiums – Al Sadd, Qatar Sports Club, Al Gharafa, Al Rayyan, Lekhwiya, Al Arabi, Al Wakhra, Al Khor and Al Sailiya. The new logo for the league is inspired by the circular shape of the football.
