Doha 08th January 2014: Qatar won the 8th West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) Championship for men on Tuesday with a 2-0 win over Jordan at the Al Sadd Stadium.
Boualem Khoukhi had scored two second half goals for hosts.
Qatar took the lead in the 55th minute and Khoukhi scored his second goal in the 81st minute.
It is for the first time Qatar is winning the WAFF championship.
Qatar coach Djamal Balmadi said: “I am happy for the team as they won the title. It was a good tournament for the growth of football in the region as it has provided a platform to young talent. At this moment my future is not that important. The most important thing was to perform to the best of the abilities and we did it.”
WAFF President Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, AFC chief Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa and HE Qatar Football Association President Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani were attended the award ceremony.
Bahrain secured a 3-2 win over Kuwait and won third place in the championship.
