INCHEON, SOUTH KOREA: The Vice-President of the International Sports Press Association, Izzat Yalmer, has underlined that Qatar’s 2022 FIFA World Cup would be a ‘wonderful’ event, stressing that time has come for this region of the world to have an opportunity for organising the World Cup.
On the sidelines of the Asian Sports Press Association meeting in Inchon, South Korea, Yalmer said this region had been waiting for several years to hold such an event. “I have visited Qatar before and I know how they (Qataris) run things when they want to organise an event and I’m sure that Qatar’s 2022 FIFA World Cup would be very good.” He criticised those slamming 2022 FIFA World Cup, saying they are probably do not know how to think about this region, and do not know habits of the Islamic world. He said the Muslim community when hosting an event will do their utmost to make it a success. “I think then they would discover that they had made a mistake,” Yalmer said, urging the Islamic world to provide support to Qatar to hold the event.
