Beijing 5th September, 2013: China showcased its latest military hardware at the Helicopter Exposition in the Tianjin city.
The display of the Eastern nation’s cutting edge technology in aerospace included choppers that could fly two times as fast as the current generation machines as well as the JY – 8 Unmanned Helicopter, the Xinhua news agency has reported.
The state of the art chopper has a coaxial double oared rotor and does not have a tail rotor. Its design is daringly similar to Silorsky’s S2 concept helicopter developed for the United States Air Force.
Fang Yonghong, the head of the unmanned helicopter technologies research wing at the Aviation Industry Corporation of China, (AVIC) China’s major aircraft maker commented on the occasion - ”China has mastered the core technologies of unmanned helicopters, and has started serialised production”.
The JY – 8 will undergo trials in 2015 and is expected to be inducted into the People’s Republic’s armed forces shortly thereafter.
Nations around the World have been watching with caution as the Dragon has been boldly flexing its muscles through the expansion and modernization of its armed forces.
