Doha Metro to feature ticket-less travel

A Senior Executive of Qatar Rail revealed to media earlier this week that the new Doha Metro will feature ticket-less travel.

Chief Technical Officer of Qatar Rail – Daniel Leckel told Arabian Business that passengers would be able to use cutting edge technology that uses a chip reading device that can be carried in the passengers’ pockets or bags will save time, space and cost.

Leckel further revealed that the design of the Doha Metro which is set to open in 2016, does not feature ticket offices and would instead have open stations utilizing wireless technology integrated with the passengers’ smartphones.

The four line metro that will run through Doha will also be connected to a heavy rail network that would extend to Saudi Arabia and Bahrain as well, as part of the Gulf railway network.
