USA: Shooting at Los Angeles LAX airport,

Los Angeles; Friday, 1st November, 2013:  The Los Angeles LAX airport has been shut down following a shooting incident today.The shooting occured in Terminal 3 of the Airport at around 9:30 AM PST (Pacific Standard Time). Multiple people were hit by the gunfire and one TSA officer has been reported killed.

The scene of the shooting – Terminal 3 is home to Virgin America and other airlines.

The incident seems to have been the act of a lone gunman and the perpetrator is currently in custody, although the suspect’s condition is unknown.

Witnesses have reported that they heard at least 20 gunshots as the suspect and the Airport Police exchanged gunfire. Law authorities suspect the threat could be of a larger scale and the airport is currently being swept for precautionary measures by multiple bomb squad units.

Airport staff have evacuated travelers and flights have been disrupted across America.
